I was both surprised and honoured when asked to be Coxmoor’s Centenary Captain. To be Captain of a club of Coxmoor’s standing and history, in our centenary year, is a very special honour indeed and I feel very privileged to be in this position.
I first joined the club in 1980 as a junior member. After a break from the game I rejoined in 1992 and feel very fortunate to have had a second chance. Twenty years as a full member and my sixth year on the committee during which time I have been Greens Chairman, Junior Organiser and now Captain.
The Centenary Year is obviously a very special year for the club and looks like being our busiest. We have lots of events planned on and off the course. If you’ve ever wanted to play Coxmoor, now’s the time as we have 13 Open events this year including the Centenary Commemorative Open, which is a once only, any combination AM-AM competition.
We also have a busy social calendar with an event planned for every month of the year, the main event being our Centenary Dinner on the 12th October where the guest speaker is Willie Thorne and live music from the Kommitments.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Coxmoor members for their attendance and support at the Captain’s Drive-In. The reception the Lady Captain and I received was overwhelming and the atmosphere in the clubhouse fantastic from start to finish.
If this is a taste of things to come we are all in for a great year!
