I am delighted and proud to be representing Coxmoor Golf Club as the 2019 Lady Captain.
Our ladies section has a busy year ahead playing in competitions both locally and nationally. We participate in many club competitions with our peers also enjoying competitions with both the male and junior sections.
We are now settling into our new clubhouse and look forward to playing our ever improving and challenging course. We extend a warm welcome to all new members and visitors and hope that you enjoy our new facilities.
I look forward to meeting and playing with members of other clubs in the ladies matches and also alongside Club Captain Nigel Moxon in the mixed.
I would like to wish everyone a happy, healthy and enjoyable golfing year for 2019 and look forward to seeing you all at our wonderful club.
Lady Captain’s Update
In the middle of May already and my year has passed really quickly from the handing over from Past Captain Pam Orton at the beginning of March.
We started with our Pancake Day Texas Scramble on 5th March finishing by eating delicious pancakes prepared by our catering team.
The ‘Captains Drive In’ was a cold blustery day and arriving on the greens machines seemed to be quite amusing and enjoyed by all, raising a substantial amount for our charity. Thoroughly enjoyed the day and thank you to everyone who was able to join in the fun!
Then, following our St. Patricks Day medal on 17th March we had an informal presentation in the new Spike Bar.
The annual Lady Captain versus Vice was a great turn out with the Captains’ side winners on the day! Thank you all for your support!
I played in the Masters Par 3 organised by the Professional Staff which I enjoyed thoroughly and was honoured to help present the prizes along with Club Captain Nigel and Phil himself. Well done Sam Edwards winning the green jacket!
The Ladies versus Gents competition was a huge success with the ladies winning, albeit controversially with a man having to make up the ladies side!! The catering was superb and the staff professional as always.
Well done to the juniors who entered our St George’s Day Medal who were a credit to their parents and the Club! It was nice to see you receiving a prize!
The Daily Mail Foursomes and R&A Coronation Foursomes were both won by Lynn Harris and Judy Hill. They will go forward to play in the Daily Mail knock-out in 2020. The winners of our qualifier for the England Golf Australian Spoons Foursomes event (Heather Ollerenshaw and Anne Shields)
have been allocated a place in the Regional Qualifier scheduled at Burton-on- Trent Golf Club on 11th July. Well done all our ladies and good luck for the next rounds!
We have had success in the Mixed Interclub with our team of Mel Prime, Louise Wilding, Derek McJannet and Trevor Ryan now in the quarter finals. It was a pleasure to have seen the matches and witnessed their success.
I have also had pleasure in watching our Juniors’ tee off in their matches. We have a strong Junior coaching and organising team and I wish them every success!
Our Bronze and Silver matches are now underway and I wish all the players an enjoyable game and hope for a few wins! Thank you all that play and travel to matches!
I have already had the opportunity to present some major trophy competition winners. Well done to Mel Prime receiving the Winter Eclectic Trophy, Judy Wheatley and Jean Stones winning the Winter Foursomes trophy, Viv Radford for winning the Easter Cup which was presented by Heidi Thorpe in memory of her mother Anne. Heidi and her family attend each year to present this and I thank them enormously!
Judy Parker and Joy Hall won the Coronation Foursomes and June Whitmore received the Spring Trophy exactly 10 years since she won it last.
I had the pleasure of being invited to and helping with the presentation at the Signal House Golf Day at Coxmoor which raised money for ‘The Railway Children Charity’. I was made most welcome and enjoyed the day!
I now look forward to taking 40 of our ladies to Forest Pines on my away trip but my highlight so far is when Lily Cowper came to play 9 holes, carried her bag then stayed for lunch to celebrate her 90th birthday! What a fantastic lady!
