Coxmoor Junior Open 2025

The Coxmoor Junior Open was first introduced in excess over 30 years ago. The format is a qualifying Strokeplay competition for the Junior Members of any affiliated club.

Numbers have dwindled in recent years due to COVID, and other commitments.

This year has seen a record number of competitors with over 70 entries received. We can only hope to match or even improve on this next year!

With the event receiving such amazing support by Juniors from surrounding counties the format was adjusted to form 2 divisions with a 15 handicap being the cut off to expand on the prize allocation for the day. There was also closest to the pins on all par 3’s to add an extra set of prizes.

A great afternoon/evening of golf was had by all on what was a tough layout, this combined with blustery conditions meant the prize winners of the day really did deserve their honours.

Winners were announced by the Junior Organiser Simon Marshall and presented by the current Junior captain Frey Patrick

Theo Nelson – Midland Boys Championship

It is great to report that Theo Nelson has just won the Midland Boys Closed Championship, winning both the under 16s and the under 18s, this qualifies him from the Carris Trophy.

What is also fantastic is that his second round of 62 broke the Burghley Park course record, enabling him to win by 4 shots at 6 under par.
What an unbelievable result, and what a week for Coxmoor elite young golfers, with Seb, Amelia and now Theo.

Coxmoor is very proud of all of them.

Sebastian Cave

Awesome Seb

The Club congratulate Seb Cave on his magnificent achievement in qualifying for The Open Championship at Royal Portrush.

With rounds of 67 and 72, Seb finished 4th in the qualifying. This guaranteed his place in the number 1 golf tournament in the world.

The Club is so proud of his achievement.

Harold Sinfield Trophy 2025

The Harold Sinfield Trophy was first introduced in 1975 as a qualifying Strokeplay competition for the Junior Members of the club to compete for the competition was played up until 2015. Due to various other commitments and COVID the competition lost its regular status as an annual Junior competition.

On the 1st June 2025 the Harold Sinfield Trophy was re-introduced as a Coxmoor Junior section board competition. A good number of the long-standing members will remember it and even have their name etched on it.

A great afternoon of golf was had by all with the honours going to:

Ladies Interclub Triumph

The Final of the Ladies Interclub was played at Sherwood Forest GC on Monday 9th September Coxmoor v Newark with Coxmoor winning 7up, a magnificent team effort from Lisa Anthoney, Julie Magilton, Heather Ollerenshaw and Julie Jan and not forgetting Judy Wheatley and Jane Morton who played in the previous rounds !

Fantastic ladies, well played.

Theo Nelson wins the Notts Union of Golf Clubs Junior Order of Merit

Theo has won the county junior order of merit, which is a fantastic achievement as Theo is only 14 years of age and the order of merit is open to junior golfers up to 18 years of age.

Theo has played in all the county junior events this year and is a member of the under 18s county junior side.

It should also be noted that Theo finished runner up in the Henderson Trophy at Wollaton Park yesterday, this is highly prestigious county junior event, Theo shot a level par 71 gross, only losing out to England Girls International Amelia Wan by one stroke.

The club is immensely proud of Theo and his association with Coxmoor.

Shepperson Trophy 2024

Congratulations to Sebastian Cave – 2024 Coxmoor Club Champion and winner of the Shepperson Trophy. A magnificent 67 in round 1 was the key to his victory and enough to hold off a late charge from Killian Ryan. Malcolm Brown finished third.

We look forward to all of them returning in 2025 for what will be the 75th anniversary of the competition.

NOTTS AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP REPORT

Killian Ryan finished runner up in the Notts Amateur Championship, scores of 76 +69 = saw him fall one shot short of Mark Porter (Sherwood Forest), Killian won the event last year at Wollaton Park.

Also worthy of a very big mention is Theo Nelson who is only 14 years old, rounds of 75 +74 = 149, saw him finish tied 6th and qualification for the Notts Matchplay Championship which takes place over the weekend of the 22nd &23rd June at Sherwood Forest.

Well done to both and we wish them well in the match play.

SUPER SEB WINS THE ST ANDREWS LINKS TROPHY

Coxmoor’s very own Seb Cave won the prestigious St Andrews Links Trophy at the Old Course yesterday, Seb led from start to finish in the 72-hole event, rounds of 65, 68, 75 and 69 saw him win by 2 shots from a very impressive international field.

The St Andrews Links Trophy is one on of the top amateur events and for Seb to win wire to wire is simply sensational and that fact he is one of our members makes it even more special, Seb recently finished 22nd in the Brabazon Trophy after coming back from a very impressive first year in America, which saw him win his opening 2 events.

For those who are not aware Seb turns out for the scratch team on a regular basis when he is available, and I urge any member to go and watch him along with our other great players.

Massive congratulations to Seb on his victory, Coxmoor members and committee is very proud of you.

Killian Ryan Graduates and Qualifies for NCAA Finals

An update on Killian Ryan graduating from Coker University in South Carolina and then competing in the NCAA Men’s golf regional finals in Georgia.

We are very pleased to report that the graduation went well and we are very proud of him in securing his degree qualification in Business Management and Sports Science.   Also, Coker University golf team have qualified for the NCAA national finals from one of the strongest regions in US college golf for only the second time in their history.  It is hard to put into context just how good their performance was and for Killian in particular who finished 4th individually in a strong field of 125 players from the 20 qualifying college teams.  The upshot is that his return to the UK has been delayed as he will now be competing at the NCAA national finals in Orlando from the 19th of May.  This will be his final college tournament and a great way to finish his college golf career.

More information on the NCAA finals can be found here
